  • Henry Pilcher (27 January 1798 - 1880), brother of William Pilcher (1790-1868), learned the art of organ making from his brother. Around 1820 he settled in Dover (Kent) as an organ maker. In 1832 he emigrated to America, where he went to live in New Haven, Connecticut and moved in later years to New York, Newark and finally in 1852 to St. Louis. In 1862 they transferred to Chicago, where the factory was destroyed in 1871 by a great fire. After this disaster it was relocated in Louisville, Kentucky, where is stayed until 1944.
  • His sons Henry Jr. (1828-1890) and William (1830-1912) became partners. Henry retired in 1858. The company was continued after 1912 by a number of grandsons, until it was bought up in 1944 by the Möller Organ Company.
