August(in) Ferdinand Bittner Jr. was born in Freystadt on July 6, 1817. He was the son of August Ferdinand Bittner (Sr.), who lived from 1787 to 1850. Senior settled in Nürnberg in 1829 as an organ builder. His son became a partner in 1844 and, after his father's death on October 3, 1850, continued the business independently. In 1871 he merged the company with the workshop of his brother Johann Michael (1816-1896). After his own death on November 29, 1879, the workshop was taken over by his second cousin Josef Franz Bittner (1852-1915).
