The Chiesa di Santa Maria del Popolo in Rome is an old Augustinian church from the fifteenth century. In the years after 1655, the interior of the church was redecorated in Baroque style, according to a design by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Bernini also designed the organ case for the new organ, with the front pipes placed behind an oak tree sculpture. The old organ is no longer in use, only the prospect and a wind chest are still present. In 1906 Carlo Vegezzi-Bossi built a new organ in the north transept with a simple front. The organ has eighteen stops on two manuals and pedal. The console is placed freestanding on the church floor.
