Saint Luke's Church at Smithfield in Virginia is the oldest church building in the United States. The building opened in 1632. The church also houses the oldest organ in the country, an old English chamber organ, built around 1630. It was built for the Le Strange family and housed in their country house, Hunstanton Hall in Norfolk, UK. In 1949 the house's inventory was put up for sale. J. Lane bought the organ in 1950, and a few years later he sold it again to Saint Luke's Church. A restoration has been carried out in 2002-2003 by Goetze & Gwynn.
