In 1710 a new organ was built for the Sint Bartholomeuskerk in Merksem. It is not known who built it. After a fire in 1742, the organ was repaired by Gilliam Davidts, who also expanded it. The organ was later moved to Houtem, although it is not known when. In 1831 Theodoor de Smet restored the organ. A Trumpet has been added. Frans Vos expanded the organ with an attached pedal, he replaced a few stops and installed a Voix Céleste and a Salicional. In 2005-2007 the organ was thoroughly restored by Joris Potvlieghe. The situation of 1742 has thus been reconstructed. Consultants in the work were Gabriel Loncke and Wenceslaus Mertens. On May 13, 2007, the organ was put back into use with a concert by Peter Thomas and Peter De Waele.
