- The parish church of St. Josef in Darmstadt-Eberstadt was completed in 1911. It was not until 1940 that an organ was purchased for the church. It was an old organ, built by Bernhard Dreymann in 1853-1854 for the Evangelische Große Kirche in Rodheim v/d Höhe. The organ had two manuals and pedal with a total of 24 stops. It was dedicated in August 1854. However, the church building was not very good in quality, and it became clear in the 1930s that a new construction would be necessary. The old church was demolished and the organ was offered for sale. The parish in Eberstadt bought the organ in 1940, but it was only transported to the organ maker Michael Körfer in Gau-Algesheim, Rheinhessen in 1942. The prospect and the wooden parts were stored in the church for the time being. Due to the war circumstances the construction could not take place. The material that was stored at the church was lost, partly due to grenade impacts, partly because the wood burned. Also the original prospect was lost.
- In 1948, Michael Körfer placed a small organ with six stops in the church as a temporary instrument. The church was renovated in 1953. An organ gallery was built, where the Körfer company built the first part of the old organ in 1954, consisting of the main work and the pedal. The construction of the second manual followed in 1956. Werner Bosch completed the work after the death of Körfer. The organ received an open front and electric action. A new console was placed in 1979. The pedal was expanded in 1997 with a Trumpet.
- In 2018, the organ was entirely rebuilt by Werner Bosch and expanded to 25 stops. The Schwellwerk has a more romantic disposition. Facade and organ case are also completely renewed. It was re-dedicated in 2019.
