One of the oldest organs in the United States is located at Zion Lutheran Church in Spring City, Pennsylvania. It was inaugurated on October 9, 1791, shortly after the completion of the church building. It was built by David Tannenberg, a German immigrant. The organ originally stood on a gallery, but was placed on the church floor on the northwest side in 1881. In 1912 a new and larger organ was built, but the old instrument was played at least once a year and remained in good condition. It was completely restored in 1998 by Patrick Murphy. Modifications made over time were removed or corrected.
