  • Henry Willis built a large organ for Canterbury Cathedral in 1886. It was one of the first large instruments with electro-pneumatic action. In the years 1939-1948 it was extended and rebuilt, and extensions followed in 1968.
  • The organ showed many faults after this, so that in 1978 it was decided to have it completely overhauled by Noel Mander. Mander built a new three-manual organ in the old cases, and used most of the original Willis pipework, supplemented with new material. In the nave of the church he placed a new choir organ (Nave organ). This has its own console but can also be played from the keyboard of Great Organ. In 1980 the renovated organ was re-dedicated.
  • In 2018-2020, the organ was restored and expanded by Harrison & Harrison. The Great Organ, Swell Organ, Pedal Organ and tubas are located in the southern triforium. Choir Organ, Solo Organ, Transept Great Organ and the Open Woods in the northern triforium. The console is located on the north side, behind the choir stalls.
