Henry Willis bouwde in 1886 een groot orgel voor Canterbury Cathedral. Het was één van de eerste grote instrumenten met electro-pneumatische tractuur. In de jaren 1939-1948 is het uitgebreid en verbouwd, en ook in 1968 volgden uitbreidingen.
Het orgel vertoonde hierna veel storingen, zodat in 1978 werd besloten het door Noel Mander geheel te laten reviseren. Mander bouwde een nieuw drieklaviers orgel in de oude kassen, en gebruikte het grootste deel van het oorspronkelijke Willis-pijpwerk, aangevuld met nieuw materiaal. In het schip van de kerk plaatste hij een nieuw koororgel (Nave-organ). Dit heeft een eigen speeltafel maar kan tevens worden bespeeld vanaf het klavier van Great Organ. In 1980 werd het vernieuwde orgel in gebruik genomen.
In 2018-2020 is het orgel door Harrison & Harrison gerestaureerd en uitgebreid. Het Great Organ, Swell Organ, Pedal Organ en de tuba's zijn opgesteld in het zuidelijke triforium. Choir Organ, Solo Organ, Transept Great Organ en de Open Woods in het noordelijke triforium. De speeltafel bevindt zich aan de noordzijde, achter het koorgestoelte.
