  • Claude Ferrand built a completely new organ for the Église Saint-Séverin in Paris in 1745. The organ was given a beautiful organ case, designed by François Dupré and Jacques François Fichon. In 1889-1890 the firm Abbey Frères renovated the organ. It now had 36 registers, with three keyboards and an independent pedal. Of these, 25 stops were taken from the old instrument. The instrument was now more a romantic organ than an eighteenth century instrument. On December 3, 1890, the organ was put into use again with a concert by Henri Dallier (organist of Saint-Eustache), A. Lemaitre (organist of Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin) and E. Lemaitre (organist of Saint-Severin).
  • In the 1950s the organ was damaged during repairs to the large window behind the instrument. In 1963, Alfred Kern started a reconstruction of Ferrand's work, advised by Michel Chapuis and Philippe Hartmann. The still usable original ranks were reused, as were the Abbey windchests. In 1988 Lalmand replaced some registers. The Musette 8' from Grand-Orgue was repaced with a Bombarde 16'. The Musette was moved up to 16' and placed on the Résonance.
  • Quentin Blumenroeder carried out a restoration of the organ in 2011, during which Dominique Thomas revised the voicing. The organ was put into use again on November 6, 2011 with a concert by Michel Alabau, Nicolas Bucher, François Espinasse and Christophe Mantoux.
